About this Item

**Second Printing stated, thus first edition. Handsome hardcover in Near Fine condition; whistle-clean and unmarked, inside and out, firm and solid binding, slight binding tilt, slight tanning at the head and tail of spine, titles bright and covers flat. The Dust Jacket is near fine as well, minute edge wear at the head and tail and some corners, otherwise bright, clean and unclipped and price intact ($2.50). Translated from the French by Constantine Fitz Gibbon. A brilliant short novel, without a wasted word, the style is simple, direct, and moving. The story involves a plane crash in the Alps and two men who struggle to reach the crash site. The story is told in great detail but without technical difficulties for the non-mountaineering reader.
