Also included are the shorter masterpieces The Shunned Howe and The Dreams in the Witch-House, as well as the Randolph Carter stories. In the whole range of imaginative literature. Lovecraft created a new form that is neither pure fancy nor pure science fiction. He combined a factual and accurate scientific knowledge with its extension to the absolute limit in supernatural bizarrerie. His work defies classification for it is as much myth as reality. He created an entire new Cthulhu Mythos in several of his tales. His work is both lore and legend at their haunting, haunted best, and at the same time science at its most provocative and tantalizing. His tales have been called the finest weird fantasy ever written, and yet also the most superbly literary science-fiction. Lovecraft's stories have won their honored eminence among the great macabre tales of the ages precisely because, while they bear no trace of the commonplace, they are based convincingly in the world of everyday reality, yet lure the mind into the farthest reaches of the imagination, the outposts of the cosmos. Always compelling in its evocative force. his prose style often soars into poetic passages of such hypnotic strangeness that the reader is transported to realms from which he may never quite fully return to the mundane world he knew before taking up the memorable fiction of H. P. Lovecraft. Size: 5 1/2" x 8 1/4". Seller Inventory # 18580
