About this title

Synopsis:

Collection of 50 monthly essays which appeared in the English edition of Haaretz, Israel's leading daily newspaper since 2003. The essays are broadly grouped in six sections: Notably Nostalgic, Largely Literary, Frankly Frivolous, Heavily Historical, Partially Political, and Slightly Sacred. The essays draw upon an abundance of talents - literary allusion, political commentary, mordant wit, acerbic criticism, religious references - while all of them are spiced with the author's particular brand of quintessentially British humor and a deep understanding of the vagaries and quirks of human nature - even if he thinks this nature is often to be deplored.

About the Author:

Michael Fox was born in London in 1934 and educated at the City of London School and London University. He graduated in law in 1955 and went into private practice in London before immigrating to Israel in 1968. He is a founding partner of Israel's largest law firm, Herzog, Fox and Neeman. In 2003 he was made a member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by the Queen for services to relations between the United Kingdom and Israel. He and his wife Sheila, also a lawyer, live in the town of Herzliya near Tel Aviv.
