About this Item

The book is mostly complete, with just the loss of some chips off the blank edges of the pages. Rebound in black and green marbled boards, with a wide, black cloth tape covering the spine and 1-1/4 inches of the covers. The inner hinges have been taped, with additional taping after the copyright page, and pages 400 and 416. The binding is cracked between pages 318 and 319. The endpapers are newer, and an additional 12 blank leaves (24 pages) have been bound-in at the back for additional hand-written recipes. xiv, 536 yellowed pages with some chipping to some pages' edges. The leaf with the most wear/chipping are pages 401/402 which covers canning, and this page has been retaped back in. After the text pages are 4 pages of advertising, followed by 24 blank pages which contain some pencilled, handwritten recipes- "Escaloped Potatoes", "Bunns A.M.R.", "Corn Gums (?) A.M.R.", "Coffee Blanc Mange", "Lemon Pies", "Egg Gruel, Egg Cordial, Omelet with bread crums" (sic), "Berry Cake Clara", Berry Cake Mrs. Homes (?)", Cake Florence", 'Baking Powder:"(how to make). The pages are yellowed but are still supple, and can be handled without tearing. The front cover contains a black cloth, handwritten label with yellow lettering - "Mrs. D. A. Lincoln's Boston Cookbook - 1884". The spine contains a handwritten title. Bookseller Inventory # 12950
