About this Item

first edition; there is no date on the imprimateur page, but "1969" is indicated after the author's foreword, so it is assumed that this was the date of publication and that it is the first edition; in Papiamentu; on the title page the author notes " Sinseramente mi kye dedika e trabow aki na mi esposa INA, kende semper tabata mi tras pa publikashon di mi obranan"; from the library of the linguist and creolist Glenn Gilbert with Gilbert's inscribed bookplate pasted in on the inside rear cover, the condition is so good that the book is rated As New; would be of interest to collectors of books on folklore, Aruba, the Netherlands Antilles, or on creole languages and specifically on Papiamentu, which has more imprints than all other creole languages combined; soft covers are light blue, dark blue, greenish-yellow, and red, with red lettering, the publisher's logo, and along the right front edge a vertical row of (Carib? or Arawak?) rock symbols found on Aruba; 8vo - 8 3/8 inches high, 67 numbered pages. Store Description

Triple G Books is owned and operated by an emeritus professor of linguistics, who was also an ardent book collector over the period 1954 to 2007. Books for sale range from linguistics, pidgin & creole languages, sociolinguistics, anthropology, education, and comparative religion through modern first editions and German and Scandinavian books. A number of the books are valuable and hard to find, as for example a 1/2-leather-bound first edition of Alfred Russell Wallace's The Malay Archipelago (2 vols.), recently sold for presentation to the Mayor of London on his visit to Malaysia, and a first edition of H. G. Wells' The Time Machine, a novel of the 19th century pointing to a scary future, a continuing revelation to me. Triple G Books stands back of its books in every way.
