About this title

Synopsis:

Murder blooms in the naturists' garden. Reporter Molly Darter is beyond uncomfortable when she's ordered to pick up an obituary for her weekly paper. The nudists shock Molly with their claim that Barbara Jean was murdered. Molly's no cop; besides, she has enough trouble on her plate dealing with her cheating husband, taking care of her precocious son, and waging war on her trampy sister. Everything changes when revealing photos of her father consorting with Barbara Jean at the produce stand come Molly's way. To protect her father, she noses around in the dead woman's past, uncovering scandalous secrets. Things heat up further when her estranged husband's undercover drug ring investigation collides with her murder probe. Only one thing's for certain. The killer is watching every move Molly makes.

From the Author:

The late great Kate Duffy of Kensington Books challenged me to write something that was different. I took her quite literally and set my next murder mystery in a naturist colony. To make matters worse, my sleuth is totally uncomfortable with people who walk around in their birthday suits.

Though the plot's focus is on whodunit, this book also delves into family dynamics, specifically that of Molly, the sleuth, and her sister, Clarice. Coming from a large family and having had two daughters myself, I know all about sibling rivalry. By the way, the events of Molly and Clarice's estrangement are totally fictional. I wanted something that would set them on a collision course and boy did I find it!

The story seed for this idea came from a group such as this that set up shop in the county of my birth some years ago. Locals were curious in a reserved sort of way about these outsiders and wondered what they were doing out there in the woods. As far as I know, the inciting group never had a produce farm, that's something I pulled from the story ether.

Another driving force in writing this book was to show that while people may appear to be different in what they do and how they live, deep down where it counts, we're all people who care deeply for our loved ones.

I hope you enjoy the book!
