About this title

Synopsis:

Murder at First Baptist is a seething, hot, murder mystery/courtroom drama set in Huntsville, North Carolina during the summer of 1933. Prohibition is ending, and the black janitor is the likely suspect when the beautiful young organist of the First Baptist Church is murdered, and her body found in the baptismal pool. Emotions run high in this period novel – for the church sexton, Isaiah, is a pillar of the Negro community. Even the police chief doesn’t believe he is guilty. But who else would have killed Betty?

Memorable characters emerge as the city’s police chief and his detective assistant seek to determine the killer’s identity amid mounting cries that the sexton be charged with the murder. Murder at First Baptist is filled with unlikely suspects – pastors, attorneys, teachers, business owners – they’ve all got secrets and no one is talking. There are plenty of scripture references in this murder mystery; and there are plenty of sinners, too.

You will want to stay with this sometimes comic, sometimes tragic narrative, which also paints a vivid picture of a Depression-ridden, deeply segregated, Southern town in 1933.

About the Author:
