About this Item

Three oblong volumes full of architectural plans, line sketchings of the elevations of those plans, and color plates with more elaborate realizations of some of the structures in their settings. Covered are all kinds of public buildings throughout France -- city or town halls, schools, courts, theaters, festival halls, train stations, post offices, hotels, hospitals, factories -- as well as farm houses, barns, houses. Many of the designs are picturesque and easy on the eye. Accompanying each design is a textual description and explanation, often placing it in its local context, and fitting into the surroundings is a virtue strenuously advocated by the work. Overall this is an ambitious work that surely was intended for a wider audience than the profession, and it is something one can easily enjoy as a coffee table book in the best sense. Spine cloth has been repaired on two volumes. Some general wear to the boards, and the marbling, already dark, may have darkened on the paper pastedowns, and the gilt, bright on one of the volumes, is dulled on the other two. In one volume the leaves, held together by cord, are loose on the front side because of typical tears between the holes for the string and the edges. Each volume measures 39 by 29 cm, or 15.5 by 11.5 inches. Bookseller Inventory # 002133

Shipping Terms:

The shipping cost provided automatically by ABE assumes that the item is the size of an average hardcover book. Since our stock is comprised largely of material which is bigger and heavier, we will often need to request additional shipping charges as a result. We pride ourselves on always packing safely, with the actual materials and method of packing depending on the item(s), where it is going, and with whom we are shipping. We most frequently use the post office, but on some high value items, or upon request, we may use alternatively UPS or FedEx. With the postal service, to domestic destinations with lower value items and the automatically furnished ABE shipping quote, we will usually use Media Mail; on higher value items we are partial to Priority or Express Mail. We will always seek to comply with a customer's wishes if they are communicated to us. When we seek additional shipping charges, we pass along those charges at our cost -- we do not add for handling or materials generally.
