Three-quarter tan leather over marbled boards, gold spine titles to red and black title blocks, brown end papers, viii, 208pp. B&W illus. This volumes has chapates on the Honey Bee, Thunder and Lightning, Electro-Motive Power, Steam navigation. Lardner was an Irish writer of popular articles on science and technology in the 19th century. He was assciated with teh University College, London but is best known for his multi-volumed Cabinet Cyclopedia.(1830-1844). He is probably remembered for his statement that high speed rail travel was not possible, because passengers, unable to breathe, would die of asphyxia.
