Muhammad Farid Wajdi (1875-1954) was a prolific Egyptian author, whose writings aimed at integrating modern knowledge into the classical system of Islam. His Quranic commentary, al-Mushaf al-mufassar (The Koran Interpreted), aimed at providing a modern scientific exegesis of the Quran. From 1933-52 he was editor in chief of the official journal of Al-Azhar university.
