About this title

Hazel Frump is turning 12 next week. A birthday, the start of summer vacation and a family reunion on an island in eastern Lake Ontario—what could be more exciting? Hazel has more on her mind, though. Her father, an art dealer, has gone missing, leaving behind two e-mails: one about an Interpol investigation and the other about the family reunion. It isn’t clear which is more mysterious. Why is Hazel’s dad mixed up with Interpol, and what’s with this family reunion? As far as she and her irritatingly brilliant nine-year-old brother Ned know, they have no living relatives besides their father.
Before Hazel and Ned can investigate, a valuable painting is stolen, their apartment is ransacked and two menacing thugs seem to be following them everywhere. The siblings escape to the family reunion, but the mystery follows them, revealing a second, darker secret that they must unravel. With the help of cousins they never knew they had, Hazel and Ned must solve both mysteries to bring their father home.
