About this Item

1st trade edition/1st printing. SIGNED and INSCRIBED by the author on the title page: 'To Ed F. My 2nd favorite Irish Indian God Bless T. Mails'. Mr. Mails has also drawn a small sign of some sort in ink above his name. Profusely illustrated in color and B&W throughout. Lovely example of this very scarce signed huge and heavy classic about the Plains Indians and their way of life. Covers the origin, distribution, daily life, social customs, government, religion, lifestyle involving the buffalo and horse, arts and crafts, achievement marks, clothing, hair styles, jewelry, headdresses, weapons, training of boys to be warriors, and the redistribution and decline of the people of the plains. The book is bound in dark maroon cloth with gilt printing, and is straight, clean, tight, has no soiling, and has no handwriting other than the author's in it; there is a small, very slightly lighter spot to the upper front binding cloth, and just a trace of binding edgewear and slight sunning at upper back panel edge. The dustjacket is price intact, clean, crisp and unfaded and has no tears or chips; there are a couple of horizontal wrinkles to the upper back panel. The most authoritative and complete work on the Native Americans of the Plains. 592 pages, plus Notes, Specific Sources, Bibliography and Index. ; Color and B&W Illustrations; 12-1/2" x 9-3/8" ; 592 + Index, etc. pages; Signed by Author. Shipping Terms:

U.S. destination shipments are always well padded and shipped in boxes, so speed of delivery is the only difference. You choose whether USPS Media Mail or USPS Priority Mail. We insure all books with a value of $50 and up at our expense, whether U.S. or non-U.S. destinations, and do not charge handling fees. PLEASE NOTE THAT NON-U.S. SHIPPING CHARGES ARE BOTH SIZE AND VALUE-DEPENDENT AND THAT WE WILL NOT SHIP BOOKS WITH A VALUE OF $50 OR OVER INTERNATIONALLY VIA USPS GLOBAL PRIORITY ENVELOPES, and can not ship book sets, large or heavy books weighing over 4 lbs. in such USPS Global Priority envelopes. Instead your book will have to be shipped well padded in a box via USPS Priority Air International. If you buy a very expensive book, depending on what the insurance limits are in your non-U.S. country, we may have to ship that book via USPS Priority International Express at a somewhat higher cost to you for us to be able to fully insure it (again, insured at our cost). In such a case ABE will contact you to let you what the increased cost would be before the order is finalized. Our phone number for order information is 800-243-6131 or for questions or international calls 918-686-6131. Leave a message on our voice mail if we're not near our phone. To pay us by PayPal, we can send a Request For Funds to you (we'd need to know the email address you are registered as at PayPal) - or you can go ahead and pay us at PayPal at our PayPal address of, including shipping costs based on our stated shipping rates and the value of the order. Shipping costs are based on books weighing 2.2 LB, or 1 KG. For non-U.S. buyers, please read our description to see if the book you order is heavy or over-sized, or over $50 in value to prevent us having to contact you via ABE to let you know extra shipping is required. YOU CAN PREVENT THE DELAY THIS CAUSES BY CLICKING ON NON-U.S. PRIORITY SHIPPING INSTEAD OF STANDARD SHIPPING DURING CHECK-OUT.
