An errantly numbered issue here! Lovecraft - although not represented by poem or prose - dominates this issue nonetheless! Samuel Loveman is one of the members of the BUREAU OF CRITICS and comments upon H.P. Lovecraft's recent tales - ARTHUR JERMYN, noticing the author distancing himself from Georgian poetry - "The few scoffs and jibes at Mr. Lovecraft's attempts to rehabilitate Georgian poetry seems to have been silenced by the speedy transition to a succession of tales of diablerie production so distinct in their atmosphere and individuality that there should be no question as to their value not only to amateurs, but through whatever channel they fare in professional literature. . " Loveman goes on to some length here and then summarizes - ". . . their simplicity is their genius, and the utter absence of complexity testifies the the abiding worth."AND there is the controversy of Lovecraft's winning HONORABLE MENTION for BEST ESSAY when Lovecraft writes back to tell the amateur officers, that "THE STREET" was a short story! Convoluted but worth reading Dorothy Houtain's commentary. A real foul-up here as there are two January 1922 issues! Not in Joshi.Bedsheet sized issue, stapled - The National was never string-tied.
