Description:

Vintage original 11 x 14" (28 x 35 cm.) lobby card, USA. Mickey Rooney, Elizabeth Taylor, Donald Crisp, Anne Revere, Angela Lansbury, dir: Clarence Brown. MGM. One of the best loved MGM family films of all time. It was filmed in Technicolor with the California coast and MGM backlot substituting convincingly for Enid Bagnold's England. The story of a girl with the dream to enter her beloved horse in England's Grand National Sweepstakes. Trained by a top jockey, she impersonates a boy to ride her horse in the race; she wins, but is disqualified when it is discovered she is a female. Twelve-year-old Elizabeth Taylor campaigned hard for the role of a lifetime, this one making her a star. MGM proposed a filming as early as 1941 with Shirley Temple and Spencer Tracy, then with Gene Tierney (who was snatched up by Fox) -- Taylor fell into place at the right time. In this card she impersonates a boy jockey as Mickey Rooney coaches her. There is some shelf wear creasing at the top blank white margin, one center blank white top margin pinhole, filled in and a smudge near the bottom right corner. ABOUT FINE. Bookseller Inventory #
