Book Description printed at the Grabhorn Press for Random House, New York & San Francisco, 1939. Leather Bound. unpaginated, 11x16 inch folio, introduction, 28 full-page color plates from the original drawings, limited first edition of 1000 copies bound in marble boards and quarter-white-goatskin backing with five raised bands and wine colored panel with gilt titles (prospectus called for half) untrimmed fore-edge, Paul Elder prospectus laid-in, gift inscription to San Franciscan Mark Altman signed by ten friends and dated October 16, 1939. Label has a small scratch, expect a small patch of discoloration on inside front cover. There are some discrepancies. The prospectus calls for half-goat and the publication is quarter-goat (actually only the backing is leather) and the prospectus also calls for a November 1939 publication but the gift inscription dates October 1939. The inscription is to a partner in the insurance firm Albert M. Bender & Co. located in the Robert Dollar Building in SF. Signed by Bender and others. Seller Inventory # 211124
