Original white linen and brown and green patterned boards, quarto (7.75 x 12 inches), pp (xxviii, 138 + map and index. Colored frontispiece lithograph facsimile of 1852 view of Sutter's Fort, facsimile page of the diary. Inscribed on front free endpaper: "To Robert E. Cowan with regards from Phil K. Bekeart, 1939." With Society of California Pioneers' printed "Christmas Greetings" slip announcing publication of the book laid in. Robert Cowan was the eminent historian and bibliographer, Phil K. Bekeart was a descendant of 49er Jules Francois Bekeart and apparently involved with the Society of California Pioneers A fine copy, entirely clean and unworn. Bookseller Inventory #
