4to. (8.5 x 11') vii, 234p. Illustrated with several black and white drawings. Xeroxed pages bound in light blue paper wrappers printed in black. A small rubbed through spot at bottom right of front wrapper, slightly faded around the edges, a couple of dings here and there, title page clipped at upper right corner, else near fine to fine with no internal markings. Otto A. Piper [1891-1982] was born and educated in Germany. He succeeded Karl Barth as Professor of Theology in the University of Munster and actively opposed the Nazi regime. In 1942, Piper and his Jewish wife were expelled by Hitler and made their way to the United States. In 1941 Piper was appointed Helen H.P. Manson Professor of New Testament Literature and Exegesis in Princeton Theological Seminary, a post he held until his retirement. He was a highly regarded scholar of New Testament and Biblical Theology. This book is his work on the philosophy of history, especially as reflected in the New Testament.
