THE WHOLE SELECTED, DIVIDED, ACCENTUATED AND EXPLAINED, WITH REFERENCES TO A KEY FOR THEIR PRONUNCIATION; CHIEFLY ON THE AUTHORITIES OF JOHNSON AND WALKER. FOR THE USE OF SCHOOLS. [8], 1-319, [1] pages. Hardcover: H 14.25cm x L 9.25cm. Original full calf leather binding; 2cm deep loss at spine head with shallow chipping at heel, spine's original black title label intact but with dulling and slight flaking to its gilt lettering and bars, handwritten white ink library shelf number at lower spine, both boards have worn corners and are only tenuously attached as is ffep but otherwise text block remains reasonably firm. University of Alabama College of Education Library bookplate on front pastedown; library oval ink stamps and marks on copyright page, at bottom of opposing Preface page, and at page 51 with latter stamp having some overlap onto page 55; laid-in as evidence for its deaccession are the book's original University of Alabama library catalog cards; no other library markings readily apparent upon a quick perusal. Varied toning/foxing with some staining and soiling; creasing and/or wear mostly at bottom page corners but with some early and late leaves at fore-edge margins too; loss to bottom corner of title/copyright leaf narrowly not affecting text; three-line antiquarian ink ownership inscription "Edward Smith's | Book | January 7th 1814" on front flyleaf. School book title list advertisement for publisher Samuel Wood on unpaged verso of page 319. Save for preliminary title, etc. dictionary text is all double column; Wiggins' "The New-York Expositor" dictionary as pages 1-277 inclusive with Griscom's "A Vocabulary of Scientific Terms" as pages 278-319.
