Limited Slipcased Edition of 125 numbered and signed copies. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. The Limited Edition is now rare. An exquisite production by Stacy Feldmann and Jamie Potenberg: Regular-sized volume format. Brown art paper boards with maroon cloth overboards and gilt titles and design on the cover and spine, as issued. Text by Rick Bass. Art by Russell Chatham. Vintage photographs. Printed on archival stock paper in the United States to the highest standards. Matching maroon cloth slipcase. Without DJ, as issued. Presents, in its ultimate collectible format, Rick Bass' "The Ninemile Wolves". Their story is riveting and profoundly moving: "In 1989, two wolves appeared in a valley in Northwestern Montana, the first known pair to den outside Glacier National Park in 60 years. The rancher let them stay long enough for the pups to mature. A month later, after attacks on dogs and calves (probably by coyotes), the wolves were removed, kept in captivity for several weeks, and then released. One pup escaped, then was captured; the other two died of starvation. The following year, another pair came to Ninemile and produced six pups. Bass, a champion of re-introduction, follows the misfortunes of the young wolves caught in a bureaucratic and political crossfire. He interviewed ranchers, farmers, and wildlife biologists, and accompanied federal agents as they tracked the wolves. For Bass, wolf recovery has become a moral as well as an environmental issue. Here he makes a persuasive case for wolves" (Publishers Weekly). An absolute "must-have" edition for Rick Bass collectors. This copy is one of the Limited Slipcased Edition, indicated/numbered as such in pencil on the Back Limitation Page. It is also very prominently and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on the title page by Rick Bass. This title is a great book. This is one of very few copies of the Limited Slipcased Edition still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. A rare signed copy thus. One of the finest American writers of our time. A fine collectible copy. Bookseller Inventory # 18587
