About this Item

48 leaves, including 24 double-page maps of the downtown retail shopping districts of cities in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia; text, maps and illustrations (from aerial photographs) printed in blue-green ink throughout. Illustrations include many aerial views of city centers, shopping districts, etc. Large folio (27 x 20.75 inches), maroon leatherette cloth lettered in gilt, leather index tabs at fore-edges of leaves. Nirenstein's real estate atlases provide an interesting snapshot of the state of urban developement in the mid 20th century. The retail centers of 23 cities are mapped, photographed, and analyzed (Philadelphia in 2 parts). The publisher's price in 1950 was $200, a significant expense and no doubt a contributing factor to the scarcity of these volumes today. Fine, virtually as new in original mailing box.
