Maroon cloth, fraying at spine ends and at tips of board corners. Dark purple top edge. Interior pages are clean. Binding is firm. A very good copy in a good dust jacket. With 32 b/w plates including frontispiece, Foreword by Admiral Richard E. Byrd, and b/w fold-out map at rear.
