Original CIRCA 1730 map of the Americas by George Matthaus Seutter, with beautiful and bright original hand coloring. It is decorated with 2 magnificently elaborate cartouches (both professionally colored) and shows the routes of early explorers of the Pacific Ocean. Perhaps its most interesting feature is that it is one of the latest maps still depicting California as an island. It is pictured in both Tooley's book, THE MAPPING OF AMERICA and THE MAPPING OF CALIFORNIA AS AN ISLAND by McLaughlin and Mayo. Printed on laid paper, the map is a superb example in excellent condition, with only a hint of the browning often found on Seutter maps. The map is attractively matted and framed. Size: 19 1/2" X 22 1/2". Bookseller Inventory #
