About this title

Synopsis:

Take a comical romp through Hickory Hills where nothing is as it seems. In a diverse neighborhood coveted for raising children with its manicured lawns, Allie learns the hard way that inviting the neighbor Clem to sit on her balcony to "survey" what the other neighbors are doing might lead to more than their coffee cups can hold. In this who-done-it, Allie's naive assumptions show just how little most of us really know each other, no matter how close we are. Who are the culprits? The neighbor whose breath could peel a pineapple? The neighbor with more Bondo in her face than a '67 Chevy? Or the high-strung neighbor with an Adam's Apple resembling a beetle running up and down in his neck? With enough cookies and cake, Allie has always believed there isn't a problem that can't be solved, but the dire events around the world, terrorism, natural disasters, political uprisings, shootings, coupled with her own daily trivialities, cause her to spiral down into a self-reflection that forces her to deal with her own past. She and all the other neighbors soon learn that ignoring red flags lead to a domino-effect of trouble that not even a bucket of frosting can help.

About the Author:

Lori has served in different capacities as a writer: editor of college newspaper; grant writer for non-profits; editor for other authors; newspaper journalist; short stories for different publications such as The Cerebral Cafe, The Rosebud, On the Edge, etc. Fiction writing is her favorite, so she put aside all other endeavors, including foster parenting, all other types of writing and her position as a facilitator for Stewards of Children to take up writing fiction full time. She likes to create characters that are real, yet entertaining, interesting and are able to shed a light on human behavior. She believes every character created in a book has its doppelganger out there somewhere in the world, and that no work of fiction is entirely fictional. Every situation in a novel has happened somewhere at some time.
