About this Item

****Square 8vo. Dark brown cloth boards. No printing specified, but circa 1930s. Very Good/: cloth boards moderately soiled/faded. Text itself clean and bright, but with prev. owner inked name and 'Memories of Camp Days' and date (12/25/33) on ffep. Small 1" closed tear to bottom of one page and some rust from staples in text gutter. Linoleum block illustrations by Ethel Kopp in black against an off-white background. Unpaginated, but [5];100pp. Book issued by Camp Fire Girls for their summer camp near Bull Run, Oregon. Book was apparently issued in a limited run according to one source, and was presented to members of the council for outstanding service to the camp. All linoleum cuts are on recto accompanied by relevant verses/quotations on verso. Subjects of the illus. include Map of Namanu, Uncle Toby, Raker Lodge, Mr. Muhlig and Shorty, Miss Elaine, Glad House, Daddy Raker, Library, Canoeing, Duck Pond (especially charming!), Sherwood Swing, Tall Pines, The Sandy, Evening, Overnight Hike and much more-50 block cuts in all. Altogether a wonderfully evocative book that must have brought back fabulous memories for those Camp Fire Girls who were so fortunate to have camped out by the banks of Oregon's Sandy River (the author Beverly Cleary camped there as a child and refers to Namanu in her book 'Ramona the Brave'.) A very rare copy of a simply delightful little book. #60010. Bookseller Inventory # ABE-2860364942
