Original cloth with minor ornamentation and titling in gilt. 268 plus 4 pages of ads in the rear. Early edition. OCLC records indicate an 1873 edition perhaps existed, although these records are somewhat unclear. An historical novel on religious themes. Set in France. By Edward Everett Hale, perhaps best known for his "Man Without a Country." In GOOD+ condition. Moderate fading to the front cover, with heavy fading to the spine. Rear cover with minor fading. Minor scuffing and edgewear. Very light soiling to the rear cover. Head and foot of the spine pulled and frayed, with very minor loss of cloth at the head.
