8vo, hardback. 3 volumes. Greer's historical account of Napoleon sets out to pinpoint two oft-overlooked contributing factors to the leader's development, namely 'his physical heritage, and the influence of his family'. Over three volumes, the influence and fluctuations of Napoleon's family are charted from his birth in 1769 to his ultimate banishment to St. Helena. Each volume contains a frontispiece plate displaying a portrait of Napoleon at relative stages of his life, and closes with an appendix, index and bibliography. Also contains other plates across the volumes displaying various associates and family members of Napoleon. One major fault with the set: frontispiece of volume 2 has been loosed from the rest of the book (see picture), otherwise the pages and books are in very good condition.
