Publisher's printed stiff boards with black lettering and ruling on front cover and spine. Some wear to extremities but other wise a very good+ and complete copy. Interior with light intermittent foxing, prior owner's script signature and dated Feb. 6, 1839 on second blank front fly leaf. An unusually nice and complete copy of a Scarce publication. Arctic Bibliography 9945. A chronicle of broad scope and appeal, intended "to exhibit a complete and connected view of successive voyages to the Arctic regions" to time of publication. Contains chapters on the climate of the Polar Regions, the animal and vegetation life, ancient voyages to the North, voyages in search of Northeast, Northwest Passages and the North Pole, with concluding chapters on the northern whale fishery and Arctic geology.
