About this Item

This is the first edition of Frank Lloyd Wright’s rhapsodic and profound statement of his architectural philosophy, THE NATURAL HOUSE, published in 1954 by Horizon Press in New York. Frank Lloyd Wright included his “credo” at the end of this book. It begins by “I believe that a house is more a home by being a work of art.”, continues by “I believe a man is more a man by being an individual rather than a committee meeting”, and draws the conclusion: “For these two reasons I believe Democracy (though difficult) is the highest known form of society.” This book illustrates this credo throughout with commentary, housing plans, and photographs of both the interior and exterior of “The Natural House”. This book, too, is a great work of art. The copy I am offering is in very good condition. It, unfortunately, lacks its dust jacket. But it is clean throughout – no writing or other marks within except for the name of the original owner and date of 1954 on the first free end paper. The cover is a bit soiled, but a good book conservatoire can clean it up if you would like that. I believe it should remain just the way it is. That way your having it becomes a continuum with an earlier generation, just as Frank Lloyd Wright would have wanted it. There is some minor chipping on the lower spine end, otherwise it is free of any serious wear. Bookseller Inventory # 511
