About this Item

Dark green tightly woven cloth over boards. Black art deco elements. Embossing. Rounded spine. 486 p. 19 cm. Pen&Ink Illustrations. Fiction, E. P. Roe's 11th novel among 20, again is of both moral and religious purpose, embracing the value of nature in one's life. Roe, 1838-1888 was an American writer and clergyman, educated at Williams College and a chaplain during the Civil War with the 2nd New York Cavalry and later in a hospital setting. At war's end, he returned to upstate New York and continued as a clergyman. On cover: "The Works of E.P. Roe", ornate design. Dodd, Mead on spine and title page; Harper Brothers w/ date on copyright page. His works were popular in England and America, particularly among the middle class readership. This is the real deal, not a modern reprint. Very good. No dust jacket. Signed by previous owner. Top page block dulled, with foxing. Light scuffing at lower spine. Else near fine for a volume this age. Bookseller Inventory # Alibris.F3060007281

Store Description

Hi, Folks ... Mom said, 'I need to downsize'. Moving to assisted living, what she couldn't take included 8,000-plus books & records. A decade later, my upcountry barn is bursting. Books multiply as others recycle priorities. I now have 30,000 or more books (not yet all online) looking for good homes, and my learning curve has been a roller coaster. I celebrate word-crafters, thought-tumblers, laughter ... the arts of communication at every turn. I preserve, protect, and share. I am also Hedgehog Publishing, 'Words & Pictures by & for Folks with Prickly Backs, Soft Bellies, & Small Brains'.
