This government report includes much text on navigability of the Tennessee, commerce on the river, the waterway's geography, various engineers' reports, the river's tributaries, water power, and more. The plates are printed in color. Two depict the Muscle Shoals Canal, and the other two depictsthe proposed intercoastal canal and a chart showing the relative accessibility to tide water of the Tennessee River and Pennsylvania coal and iron fields.
