About this Item

First Edition. Die Neue Linie magazine issue of December 1937. Published and edited by Herbert Bayer in Leipzig. 11" x 14" tall. 95 pages. Color cover illustration by Stabeneau of a 15th century Santa Claus. Some light chipping along the edges. Good to very good condition. Black and white photos and illustrations. A beautifully produced magazine published by Bayer (1900-1985) who was affiliated with Bauhaus for many years. The magazine had an Avante-garde appeal to a mass audience. It combined fashion, literature, graphic design and art. Somehow the prevailing regime in Germany left the magazine alone. This issue has beautiful full page color ads including a Christmas ad for Mouson Lavendel; 4711 Shahi Pardum; Schultz Grunlack ale; Ariston Luxe cigarettes; Kolnisch Wasser; Atikak cigarettes. Articles include: Wintermarchen in Suditrol by Hubert Mumleter with photos by Hilde Schiller, Geistige Ernte 1937 a symposium by Paul Alverdes, Josef Martin Bauer, Otto Brues, Paul Fechter, Fred. Luff, Bruno Werner, Henirich Zillich and others with an illustration by Hanna Nagel uf Einen Kleinen Barockengel: poetry by Hermann Stahl, Der Geburstag: a puppet play by Dora Thelemann with illustrations by Fritz Kredel.
