How Many New Graveyards Wait for You Behind the Atlantic Wall
3-3/8 by 4-7/8 inches. Small Nazi leaflet directed at American soldiers. Front (recto) image of black crosses against a red sky with the caption, 'How many new graveyards wait for you behind the Atlantic Wall?' The verso (back) offers a rather confusing text, that seem to be an imagined letter home to two women named Mary and Eva. The message seems to encourage desertion and uncertainty: 'I don't see why the hell I should go and get myself killed for a crowd of politicians and warprofiteers, for FDR or Iky Moses or no one. I'd take a risk for you, Mary and Eva, I would. But darned if I can see any sense in getting laid out for the bunch of queer fish that's sent us over to Europe this time.' Leaflet dated 1944 in the margin and probably distributed in Italy prior to D-Day, when the Allies would have to cross the Atlantic Wall fortifications that Germany had built all along the English Channel and the North Sea.
