These maps were prepared by James Alexander and Lewis Evans to accompany a bill filed in 1745, commonly known as the "Elizabethtown Bill in Chancery" concerning disputed landholdings in the Elizabeth/Newark area of New Jersey. To reach a wider audience, Alexander arranged for the bill to be published in an 81 page document printed by James Parker of New York. Engraving by James Turner of Boston.
