About this title

Synopsis:

This work stands as the first comprehensive study of United Nations peacebuilding in East Timor from May 1999 to the end of the UNMISET mission in May 2005. A special feature of this book is the direct involvement in the field by the authors in key institutional sectors through various phases of the UN peacebuilding process. The authors also bring to bear on the subject a multidisciplinary approach drawing upon anthropology, sociology, political science, and international relations theory.

About the Author:

Geoffrey C. Gunn is Professor or International Relations, Faculty of Economics, Nagasaki University. He is author of East Timor and the United Nations: The Case for Intervention (Trenton, New Jersey: Red Sea Press, 1996); Timor Loro Sae: 500 Years (Macau: Livros do Oriente, 1999); and, in this series, Encountering Macau: A Portuguese City-State on the Periphery of China, 1557-1999 (2006). Reyko Huang is a doctoral candidate in political science at Columbia University. She holds an MPA from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, Princeton University. From 2004-2006 she worked at the International Peace Academy in New York, where she focused on rule of law programs in the context of UN peace operations.
