About this Item

Illustrated and original color. 1 p. 7? W x 6? H illustration at top of sheet 8-3/8? W x 10-1/2? H. Loose sheet, as issued. Ref.: Cohn 1769. R. A. Vogler, Graphic Works, Dover, p. 25. A comic illustration by George Cruikshank to a bit of cockney verse. Cohn refers to it as "a Songhead, with three stanzas of verse and an extremely characteristic etching". Vogler considers this one of Cruikshank's early works, perhaps as early as 1812, when the artist "worked with his father producing song sheets for companies like Laurie & Whittle?Such song sheets were sold by street vendors as well as by the publishers themselves.". Only one copy recorded by WorldCat, at Harvard's Houghton Library. Very rare. Mild toning of edges with tiny chip from left margin, remote from text and illustration. A tiny (<1 mm) hole in background curtain. Very Good. Bookseller Inventory # 11574
