Book Description The Grolier Club (printed by Gaylord Schanilec at Midnight Paper Sales), (New York), 2002. Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Limited edition. Octavo, original mauve cloth, matching slipcase; xi, 44 pp., iilustrated with frontispiece and 10 colored wood engravings (2 are double-page). Commissioned by the Grolier Club as a sort of sequel to their 1915 "New York" - with text by Walter Prichard Eaton and color wood engravings by Rudolph Ruzicka, "New York Revisited" took on a character of its own following the tragedy of September 11, 2001. Schanilec's frontispiece engraving shows the City laid out in dark, somber lines, with the twin towers of the World Trade Center in the distance, dimly rising like a gray ghost into the sky. Limited edition of 250 copies, this #180, signed in the colophon by Gaylord Schanilec and Kenneth Auchincloss. Seller Inventory # 20759

In 1915, The Grolier Club published New York with color wood engravings by Rudolph Ruzicka. That book evoked the city in a period of rapid, remarkable change. Two-and-a half years in the making, New York Revisited is illustrated by the foremost contemporary artist in color wood engraving. The engravings include the Empire State building, Chrysler Building from Lexington Avenue, 230 Park Avenue, Grand Central subway station, White Horse Tavern, Times Square, the World Trade Center (vignette), and Strawberry fields. One of 250 signed and numbered copies, designed and printed by the artist at his press, Midnight Paper Sales. Book Description The Grolier Club, New York, 2002. 11 colour wood engravings by Gaylord Schanilec. One of 200 copies signed by the artist and author, there were also 50 specials with a portfolio of wood engravings by Ruzicka printed for the club in 1915. Printed in 12 point Monotype Emerson. Tall thin 4to., bound at the Campbell-Logan Bindery in original grey silk covered boards with black and gilt spine label, housed in a grey silk covered slipcase. As new apart from one small mark to the back of the slipcase. Slight water mark in top left hand corner of upper cover. A great tribute to New York and New Yorkers. The book was intended as a modern day reply to a Grolier Club book on New York printed in 1915 with colour woodengravings by Rudolph Ruzicka, however, it took on a new importance as its publication coincided with the attack on New York in September 2001. A truly beautiful book printed by Gaylord Schanilec at his press in Wisconsin, Midnight Paper Sales. Seller Inventory # 7890
