Rare original reprint (not a disbound article) in its original grey printed wraps, protected in clear removable plastic. From the Smithsonian Report for 1909, Pages 385-400, collating complete with Plates 1-3 (comprising of 6 b/w photos). Publication #1967. 15 x 25cm. Published in the year of Boyd Alexander's death. The author was an explorer, ornithologist, and British Army officer. During 1904-7 he was part of an expedition from the Niger to the Nile, exploring the Lake Chad area with brother Claud, P.A. Talbot, Captain G. B. Gosling and the Portuguese collector, José Lopes. Claud and Gosling died en route. Alexander was awarded the RGS Gold Medal in 1908, and returned to Africa with Lopes in 1909, and, at the age of 37, was subsequently killed in a dispute with locals near Nyeri. CONDITION: Fine copy, tightly bound. Paper lightly tanned. Some spotting. Ref 1832. Bookseller Inventory # 1832

Nice solid vg+ condition Hinges firm and tight, which is important in this thick and heavy set.
