About this title

Synopsis:

The Nightingale Water is a new departure in Macdara Woods's poetry. A sustained meditation in verse, following the progress of his mother's fatal illness from the morning of her stroke, it speaks directly about bodily and mental disarray, about his mother's and his own repossession of childhood. It also looks at the multiplicity of connections between the dying woman, her family, everyday living and history. The Nightingale Water uses poetry to bring about a prolonged and serious confrontation with the human issues of death and the disintegration of the self.
