About this title

Synopsis:

Sam and Laura kept making noise in the wrong places--libraries, living rooms, restaurants--so their mothers got fed up and took them to a perfect place for noise and playing.

From School Library Journal:

PreSchool-K-- This book has a lot of pizazz. It is bright and colorful with great, eye-popping endpapers. Implying that ``there's a time and a place for everything,'' it's as much for parents as it is for kids. Sam and Laura are friends. Individually, their respective mothers find them loud; together they are terrors. The four of them go to the library, a restaurant, and a department store. They are reprimanded for disturbing others in the first two, and create such havoc in the third that they are forced to leave. The solution to all of this is obvious: they go to the park where the children can be the monsters and monkeys they want to be. The illustrations are - enclosed in small, irregular frames, until the foursome gets to the park where the visuals take over an entire spread. This is an effective transformation, yet the words that appear as sound effects on other pages are not here, making the scene of the loudest play the one that is the most silent. Regardless, this book strikes a nice balance between divergent individual needs. --Martha Topol, Northwestern Michigan College, Traverse City, MI
