Norwegian language. Three volumes, bound in three-quarter brown cloth and marbled boards. Pp. 536; 326; 378. Decorated endpapers match the boards; all edges marbled. 1914 title page date for each volume; no additional printings. Biographical sketches of Norway's most prominent men, edited by Gran, who also provided one sketch. Each sketch proceeded by a portrait of the subject, mostly engravings. Men featured include Hans Nielsen Hauge, Herman Jarlsberg, Johan Dahl, Peter Andreas Munch, Frederik Stang, Ole Bull, Halfdan Kjerulf, Johan Sverdrup, Jorgen Moe, Moltke Moe, Ivar Aasen, A. O. Vinje, Edvard Grieg, J. E. Sars (who authored the piece on Munch), Sophus Bugge, Bjornstjerne Bjornson, Henrik Ibsen, many more. Two entries have occasional light pencil underlinings and marginal brackets (erasable); all three volumes carry the bookplate of Norwegian-American collector Herman Gimmestad. He undoubtedly received these volumes from his father, Galesville, Wisconsin pastor Lars E. Gimmestad. The boards are rubbed at the lower edges, otherwise just light wear. Hinges solid; bindings square. All volumes clean and tight. Uncommon. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Bookseller Inventory #
