About this Item

197 p. This is a peculiar book, attempting to tell the story of one of Minnesota's most interesting and complicated figures through the eyes of a fictional protagonist. It seems to be more of a hagiography than a biography. (Donnelly was a U.S. Congressman, land speculator, newspaperman, and author of several well known works including Atlantis and The Great Cryprogram, a contribution to the Bacon-Shakespeare debate.) A gift inscription to "Helen" from "David" says that Sullivan capitalized on "Grandfather" to "put this otherwise sappy story across," so there may be some interesting association value here. Cloth cover, very good; dust jacket chipped and scuffed, gift inscription. Bookseller Inventory # 6425

We concentrate on nonfiction, particularly history, and in books of a local or regional nature--city, county, state histories, for instance, and histories of movements, institutions, churches, organizations, and people particular to those places. We have family histories, historical or regional fiction, children's books, cook books, and interesting books on the arts, antiques, and useful crafts. We have a small selection of fiction, many biographies and autobiographies, some prints and posters, drawers full of ephemera on the above topics.
