About this Item

Richard Harding Davis is still remembered as one of the most notable AZmerican war correspondents. This volume contains his on-site reportage of many famous battles, including the Spanish American war, the South African War, the Japanese-Russian War, and others, includung commentary on battles he did not witness personally. As such this is an invaluable look at a turbulent and formative period of history through the eyes of someone who was close to it as a keen observer. This copy is remarkably well preserved for a book over 100 years old, probably because it comes from the estate of the original owner, whose bookplate is on the inside front cover. Maroon cloth binding, no marks, strong text block, gilt lettering, deckled edges. 263 pages, 12 plates. Scarce. Bookseller Inventory # 160134
