He received his Ph.D. in French Literature from the University of California, Irvine. He also studied Art History and Architecture in the graduate program at UCI and at the ╔cole du Louvre in Paris. Le N˘tre's Gardens, accompanied an exhibition he curated at the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California.
