About this Item

2 vols. 10 (of 20) plates. xv, xxii, 512, ii, 456p. Rebound in later 19th century quarterbinding (marbled boards backed in green leather). 25cm. The first volume has extensive pencil markings and notes. The second volume lacks all 8 illustrations, the folding map, and the folding table. Both volumes have some foxing and moderate wear but both are also securely bound and reasonably sound. From the John R. Willis Collection of Africana with his bookplate in both volumes. French text. An uncommon and, unfortunately, rather defective copy of this account by a French sea captain and explorer. Bookseller Inventory # 81097
