Bulletin published by the Association Fédérative Générale des Étudiants de Strasbourg on the scandal caused by the release of the highly influential pro-Situationist pamphlet De la Misère en Milieu Étudiant [On the Poverty of Student Life]. Nouvelles was written in the aftermath of the publication of De la Misère en Milieu Étudiant, a pamphlet published in 1966 by pro-Situationist students who had infiltrated the student union at the University of Strasbourg, in collaboration with the Situationist International. De la Misère en Milieu Étudiant aided in the dissemination of Situationist concepts, including a deeper exploration of the alienation of students and their passive subservience to systems of government, family, and the university. Using university funds, the students printed and distributed 10,000 copies of De la Misère en Milieu Étudiant, and from there, dozens of editions were produced by student and worker organizations around the world. The pamphlet would go on to play a role in the French student protests of May 1968. This bulletin of the student union of Strasbourg responds directly to the reception of De la Misère en Milieu Étudiant in the press, reprinting quotes from Le Monde, Figaro, Nouvel Alsacien, and other news outlets who condemned the students actions as well as court proceedings related the court case brought against the students who appropriated school funds to print their radical pamphlet. This group would also produce a French reprint of the short-lived New York radical periodical, Black Mask, a few years later.
