Book Description J M Dent & Co.Ltd, London, 1893. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. 16mo., edited by R Brimley Johnson with illustrations by William C Cooke and Ornaments by F. C. Tilney . All volumes pale green cloth with gilt stamped cartouche topped by the Austen family crest and enclosing the title and volume in the top left-hand corner of the front board and facsimile signature of Austen in gilt to the bottom right hand corner. Gilt stamped titles to the spine, top edge gilt and other edges uncut. There is a publisher's 'Ex Libris' stamp to the front pastedown, two colour title page and tissue guarded illustrations to all volumes. Toning to the spines and occasional marking to the boards with a few drip marks and a faint splash mark to the front of the first volume of Pride and Prejudice which also has a pin prick hole in the cloth at the foot of the spine and a ding to the bottom edge of the upper board. Volume I of Mansfield Park and Sense and Sensibility also have tiny holes in the cloth at the very foot of the spine. Internally, there are no inscriptions and allowing for toning to the free endpapers and uncut edges, the pages are clean and bright with only a couple of tiny ink spots in Mansfield Park. Indeed, Sense and Sensibility appears unread as it has a number of unopened pages. All in all, a good looking complete, original set of this Nineteenth Century edition of Austen's works.
