This novena was originally written in Portuguese and was apparently only translated by Fr. Ledesma; it had previously been printed in Mexico in 1764 by the heirs of Maria de Rivera. For this edition they commissioned => a full-page emblematic copper engraving of St. Anne, mother of the Virgin Mary, seated with her daughter on her lap; Mary wears a crown and holds a book (the scriptures) towards which Anne is gesturing, with the dove of the holy spirit above them, angels holding emblems of holiness at their sides, and a cat and a bird's nest (?) at their feet. Zapata did the engraving and signed it. We trace only four U.S. libraries reporting ownership, the JCB copy being reported as fire-damaged and lacking the last four leaves. Small 8vo in 4s (15 cm; 6"). ff., plate. Medina, Mexico, 5166. Original plain wrapper with scattered ink spots and a very light, very limited marginal waterstain to last few leaves; horizontal worming in last three leaves affecting four words but not sense. => A lovely little book of devotion.
