A work of great authority, this popular dictionary was first published in 1559. It went through more than twenty-five editions, with several variations in content, during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. All editions have two principal parts: the fifteenth-century Vocabularius attributed to Jodocus of Erfurt and Nebrija's Lexicon Iuris Civilis. It is a curious hybrid of late-medieval and renaissance scholarship; the former work is a typical scholastic compilation, the latter is a humanistic work grounded in philology and historical commentary. Nebrija was an important Spanish scholar and educator. Educated at the universities of Salamanc. Seller Inventory # 76259
