About this Item

Uncommon second edition, following the first of 1699. Scholastic Lutheran theology: Reineccius's response to Johann Friedrich K?nig's Theologia positiva acroamatica, a textbook which inspired numerous 17th-century dogmatic lectures and which was placed on the Index Librorum Prohibitorum. Reineccius is best known for his well-regarded polyglot Bible and Hebrew-Chaldaic lexicon; here he provides various Scripture verses in Hebrew or Greek with German translations, and accompanying analysis in Latin. 8vo (16.8 cm, 6.6"). [18], 918, [38] pp. (lacking add. engr. t.-p.) 19th-century half red roan imitating morocco over marbled paper sides, spine with gilt-stamped leather title-label, gilt-ruled compartments, and gilt-stamped decorations; rubbed, front joint starting with paper of hinge (inside) opening, covers each with a paper adhesion and spine with paper label. Additional engraved title-page and back free endpaper lacking. Title-page with unobtrusive early inked annotation and small excision repaired some time ago; title-page verso and several other pages institutionally rubber-stamped. Pages age-toned, a few with offsetting or light staining, generally clean overall. A very few instances of early inked underlining. Bookseller Inventory # 26188
