Book Description Editions de Minuit, Paris, 1945. Softcover. Exemplaire sur Velin numero 100. "100" is stamped on publication page as well as on loosely inserted slip. This copy is apparently one of the, "1.500 exemplaire sur velin, numerotes de E. 91 a E 1,590" from those copies "Pour l'Etranger."."Les volumes de la presente collection constituent la Premiere Edition Publique des Editions de Minuit." This particular Steinbeck novel, dealing as it did with the Norwegian Resistance, was apparently popular with anti-Nazi forces. The Danish underground put out eight separate mimeographed editions of the Danish translation. The first French edition, entitled >, was published in 1943 in Lausanne (Switzerland). The first clandestine Paris publication by Editions de Minuit was in early 1944. The publishers note that this first post-liberation edition was printed by Aulard, "imprimeur clandestin des >." Pages are unopened. VG. Bookseller Inventory # 004356
